Attorney Gigi Gardner Sworn in to the Supreme Court of the United States

On Wednesday, November 30, Attorney Gigi Gardner of Gardner Law, PLLC was sworn in to the Supreme Court of the United States. She was selected with 11 other Campbell Law School alumni to be admitted to the Supreme Court bar. Two of her former employers, Robert E. Nunley and Todd A. Jones, both of Raleigh, North Carolina, sponsored her admission as standing bar members.

The Supreme Court is the highest court in the land. As a bar member, Attorney Gardner is now able to file petitions of writ of certiorari with the Court requesting a case to be heard, make oral arguments before the Justices, and file amicus briefs as a “friend of the court.”

After being sworn in, Attorney Gardner heard the oral arguments in Jennings v. Rodriguez, an immigration case raising concerns about whether certain detained immigrants may be held indefinitely without the right to a bond hearing. Acting Solicitor General Ian H. Gershengorn argued for the government, and Ahilan T. Arulanantham of the American Civil Liberties Union of Southern California argued for the detained immigrants.

Attorney Gardner is also admitted to the United States Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit and the United States District Court in the Eastern District of North Carolina, in addition to the Supreme Court of North Carolina.

With the upcoming changes in the new administration, Attorney Gardner is prepared to fight for the rights of her clients, even if that means appealing cases all the way to the United States Supreme Court.
