Since 2002, Business North Carolina has used this designation to honor the state’s top attorneys. For the annual selection process, the magazine distributes ballots to every member of the N.C. State Bar, asking voters to nominate their most distinguished peers. Attorneys with the highest number of votes will become permanent members of the Legal Elite Hall of Fame.
For 2021, the magazine selected 982 lawyers, which accounts for less than 4% of the state’s active lawyers. In recognition of pandemic-related challenges, the magazine also called attention to the creativity, flexibility, and resilience that the attorneys had to exhibit in order to maintain and exceed the standards of their practice throughout 2020.
